Exporting natural gas raises your power bills. Trump is doing it anyway.

The Trump administration has reversed a Biden-era pause on new liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports despite evidence that exporting natural gas raises domestic energy prices. A December 2024 Department of Energy (DOE) report confirmed that LNG exports drive up fuel and electricity costs while harming local communities and the environment. However, the Trump administration ignored these findings, greenlighting multiple LNG projects, including in Louisiana’s Cameron Parish. Critics argue that these projects prioritize fossil fuel industry profits over consumer welfare and environmental health. The expansion of LNG export terminals also contradicts declining European gas demand and rising renewable energy adoption. Legal challenges from environmental groups seek to halt the approvals, arguing that they fail to meet public interest requirements. Experts warn that continued LNG expansion could burden U.S. consumers with higher costs while benefiting the fossil fuel industry.
