EPA Awards $7.5 Million to Tribal Community Microgrid in Maine

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township, Maine, received $7.5 million from the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program to develop a distributed microgrid. This project will install solar systems, whole-home battery backups, and load management technology in 202 homes, two multi-family units, and public facilities. The microgrid, with over 4,500 solar panels, will produce nearly 2,000 MWh of renewable energy annually, reducing emissions by 31,000 metric tons by 2050. The project also aims to boost energy resilience, lower costs, and create energy-related jobs for the Tribe. Other Tribes were also awarded grants for similar projects.
